‘Shambles’ is an altogether dark affair, featuring a sharp arrangement with electronic instrumentation, and an uncompromising, biting lyric. Written over the course of two and a half years, produced over the course of two and a half weeks, the track features ultra-modern synthetic bass, keys and percussion. These are brought to life by the acoustic piano, and controlled by the rangy voice of Hews. In parts, that voice has itself been stretched and warped, then pushed into the background to provide a deep-set supporting chorus sound, that nonetheless finds its edge. The main event, of course, is the lyric. Halfway between Leonard Cohen and a broadway musical, the keenly honed lyrics paint a precisely realised and darkly beautiful picture of inner conflict.

Kevin Brennan of Wavefarm Productions in Dublin produces, all vocal parts and instruments are Hews himself.
